i believe in God but have always felt guilty going to church or for asking for his help and forgiveness.after reading The Shack i have a whole new outlook on my religious stance and my relationship with God. This book is phenomenal to say the least.
Figuring that I couldn't truly judge the story, or believe it wasn't for me, until I had read it, I reluctantly opened its pages. How wrong I was. Several months ago, my cousin recommended THE SHACK. It is filled, page after page with simplicity, beautiful prose, and overwhelming mystery. I looked it over and decided against it. In early December, another friend urged me to read it "so we can discuss it". I found the story to have two levels - one level is the human tragedy that unfolds; the other is the role of the divinity. The end result, for me anyhow, is the hope in and desire for the transforming power of acceptance.
I look forward to reading it again for the "underlines" as I galloped through it the first time. The ShackI enjoyed this "take" on a faith journey that may have been fictional but "fits" so many people. I resonated as well with the unique view of God - so much so that I purchased additional copies for my friends and family. Don't be put off by the pace in the opening chapters. It picks up and is worth the time.
But I stopped short not because I was afraid of any scriptural contradiction that I might find. The title caught my eye - the content held my attention. I stopped because I wanted to hang onto the courage to identify my own "shack" and the redemption acquired from doing so. Weaved throughout this compelling novel lies a deeper story of self-examination. I saw that someone has addressed the book theologically (by writing another book)and I almost purchased it to see what they had to say. A deep and wonderful story about courage to take responsibility for your feelings and your behavior. A testament to forgiveness because perfect love cast out all fear.
The Shack will stretch the way you think when it comes to the character of God. You will never be the same and it will be for the better. It's an awesome exercise. Couldn't put the book down. We have an awesome God.
